Rural Healthcare Community Hubs for Foster Children and Families in Texas

The School of Nursing at the University of Texas San Antonio is committed to serving the health needs of a rural region in Texas stretching from the Gulf of Mexico in Jackson County to Lake Amistad in Del Rio and North to South from Fredericksburg to Encinal. Within this region, foster care children and their families are a particularly marginalized community. Proximity to healthcare, (including tele-healthcare) is a major issue. As a Foster Care Center of Excellence program and a Project ECHO Superhub, the School of Nursing has received a grant to support many of the healthcare portions of this project, however the foundational connectivity challenges persist.
